A multi-university team led by Kayunta Johnson-Winters, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, has received funding from the National Science Foundation to increase the number of underrepresented STEM faculty within the University of Texas System by mentoring advanced doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty through the tenure and promotion process.

Electronic cigarette use, or vaping, has been seen as a potentially less harmful alternative to traditional cigarette smoking. New research from Ziyad Ben Taleb, assistant professor in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, says that vaping use is just as harmful to the body as cigarette smoking.

Today is the first day of the State Employee Charitable Campaign at UTA. Maverick Speakers Series presents “A Conversation with LeVar Burton” Thursday, Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m. Burton, perhaps best known for his 26-year run as host of the beloved PBS classic Reading Rainbow, also originated the iconic role of Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He continues to advocate for reading and exercises his love for storytelling in a variety of formats, including literacy-focused apps, books, podcasts, and film.
