Missionary Journey – Janary Suyat

“There is a desire to serve in new ways and try things that have never been done before,” shares missionary Janary Suyat about how encouraged she is to see God moving in the hearts of both the younger and older generations in the Church of the Nazarene in Japan.

Japan is where Janary lives, fulfilling God’s call on her life to reach the unreached. As with many nations in the 10/40 window (between 10 degrees to 40 degrees north latitude), there are so few Christians that people are not likely to hear the gospel, but Janary wants to be a light for those she meets. She recognizes that “God has been working in their hearts before I showed up.”

As the Global NYI ministry development coordinator and East Asia Field pioneer missions coordinator, she enjoys living cross-culturally, getting to know different people, and observing different walks of life. During her years as a missionary, she has learned a lot. “Sometimes what I think people need may not really be what they need, so in order to truly serve, I must listen first.”

Watch Janary’s video HERE to see how God is using her love of video games and other hobbies to build friendships that will last into eternity.

Japan

In 1905, Pastor Williams and Pastor Poole came to Japan as missionaries. They served in Tokyo for two years before moving to Kyoto in 1907, where they opened a Sunday school. In October 1908, the Holiness Christian Church, which was their sending organization in the United States of America, joined the Church of the Nazarene. These two missionaries were accepted by the Foreign Missions Bureau as the first missionaries of the Church of the Nazarene in Japan.
