Longwood Reimagined: New Pathways |
Our
Longwood Reimagined project continues to make great progress as we get ever closer to our opening in the fall. This week, work is finishing on the pathways inside our new West Conservatory and then we will turn our attention to pouring the slabs for the interior water features. The Cascade Garden is also making tremendous progress, as construction of the interior has started. In the coming weeks, we will bring back the stones that were used in the original Cascade Garden and recreate the hardscape. Prior to dismantling the original Cascade Garden, scans were taken of each stone and its location in the garden. The stones were numbered, removed, cleaned, tagged, and barcoded and will now be returned to recreate—stone-by-stone—the beautiful stonework that was an important part of the original Burle-Marx design. The interior work for both the West Conservatory and Cascade Garden is in preparation for planting, which is slated to begin in early April!

Expand your mind and have some fun during our hands-on Design Tuesday workshops in our fresh, horticulturally inspired The Garden Shop. Unwind with friends during these relaxed floral arranging experiences as you explore design techniques demonstrated by our Plant Team Specialists. These evening workshops include all materials and plants, light refreshments, and exclusive access to The Garden Shop.
Join us March 12 or 26 for our Design Tuesday: Hanging Kokedama workshops, during which we’ll explore how this century-old form of Japanese art (translating from “koke” meaning moss and “dama” meaning ball) is recently experiencing a resurgence as an updated, modern form of art. Create two kokedama using a variety of plant choices and experiment with displaying your plants in a new way.
During Design Tuesday: Foliage Terrariums, offered April 9 or 23, create your own miniature, lush landscape using ferns, groundcovers, moss, driftwood, branches, and stones in an open glass vessel.

Just like a garden, buildings need tending and we’re taking these first few months of the new year to care for the Peirce-du Pont House, The Café, and 1906, resulting in closures. The House will be closed through early March. The Café and 1906 will be closed through April, yet plenty of delicious food will be available in climate-controlled tents.
