Black History Month in Orange County

Black History Month Movie Series

Join us this February at the Passmore Center for a Black History Month movie series, held Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Films include Till, Race, Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story, and Just Mercy.

Screenings take place Feb. 11, 18, and 25 at 103 Meadowlands Dr., Hillsborough. Register by calling 919-245-2015 by the Wednesday before each showing.

The Orange County Public Library is offering:

  • Read Black highlights books by and about the African Diaspora at the Main Library, 137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough.
  • Black History Month Biography Zine Making runs all month at the Southern Branch, 203 S. Greensboro St., Carrboro—create a mini-biography zine using books from our display.
  • Black History Month Storytime takes place Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library, featuring books by Black authors.
  • Youth Services Black History Display showcases Black stories for young readers across genres.

Statewide Primary and Orange County Schools Board of Education Election Day is March 3.

The voter registration deadline is Feb. 6. Voters who miss this deadline may still register and vote in person at any early voting site.

Take Your Child to the Library Day on Feb. 7

Take Your Child to the Library Day on Feb. 7

Celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day with a morning of family fun at the library at 137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough. Enjoy a touch-a-truck experience from 9–10 a.m., a magic show at 10:15 a.m .with magician Dana Hill, creative crafts, therapy dogs for reading practice, special guest storytimes, and more activities for all ages.
Seating for the magic show begins at 10:00 a.m. and is first-come, first-served. Space is limited, so arrive early.

Summer Camp Guide Available

Summer Camp Guide Available

Camps are offered for children ages 3 to 14-years-old and include a broad range of topics and themes to engage young minds and create wonderful summer memories. Half-day morning and afternoon camps can be combined for a full day of summer camp care.

Registration begins Friday, Feb. 16, 8:30 a.m. Registration is processed first-come, first-served. Payment is due in full at the time of registration.

Orange County is now accepting applications for summer camp staff positions.

Senior Camp Counselor and Junior Camp Counselor applications are available through Feb. 20.

We are also offering a Counselor in Training youth development program for children ages 13–15. This program focuses on leadership, teamwork, customer service, and programming skills. Participation is by application, includes a small weekly fee, and is not a paid position.
