Last week, faculty, staff, and students came together to share a meal and an evening of gratitude with over 700 of their fellow Mavericks during the annual campuswide Thanksgiving Dinner.

Improving prep of bilingual science teachers
|
The National Science Foundation has granted the College of Education a three-year Improving Undergraduate STEM Education award. Zulma Mojica, assistant professor of bilingual/ESL education and principal investigator for the project, says this grant will prepare future bilingual educators to create instruction that properly meets the science and linguistic needs of new generations of bilingual/ESL K-12 learners.

Deputy Athletic Director Debbie Garcia joined the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ sixth Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo cohort.
“I’m very excited to participate in this program, and I really appreciate the opportunity to grow my leadership skills and bring back new tools and resources to support the University and our students," Garcia says.

New and continuing students can visit this one-stop shop to take care of tasks like advising and class registration before the beginning of the spring semester.

UTA Libraries is offering extended hours Dec. 2-11 to accommodate students during finals week. The library will be open:
- Dec. 2, 7 a.m.-4 a.m.
- Dec. 3, 7 a.m. begins 24-hour service
- Dec. 4-10, open 24 hours

Dec. 11, end 24-hour service at 11 p.m.

Four students who are part of UTA’s Honors College recently attended the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. Margaret Kouassi, a public relations major, won the first place Sloane Prize in Undergraduate Research with her research on social media efficiency in health care.

| Research Enhancement Program taking applications
|
Proposals for the Research Enhancement Program (REP) must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 6, for consideration. REP grants provide faculty with seed grants to launch new initiatives, serving as a foundation for future research and funding from external sources.

Veterans Upward Bound is collecting new socks for homeless veterans in its Socks For Service Drive though Tuesday, Dec. 10. Donations will be accepted at the Military and Veteran Services Center, the Follett Student Leadership Center, Room 706 of Carlisle Hall, the Financial Aid Office in the University Administration Building, and Veterans Lounge in Room 216 of the Library.
