Todd Castoe

Research could improve snakebite treatment globally

Todd Castoe, professor of biology at UTA, is the lead author of a study that analyzes rattlesnakes' venom regulation and provides important insight into how their genes are controlled. In addition to funding this research, a $1.5 million National Science Foundation grant will support mentoring and training for 22 undergraduate and eight graduate students across the research team members’ four affiliated institutions.

Amy Tigner, professor of English, will give a presentation titled “The Creative Practice: Academics and Artists” on Monday, Feb. 5, 12-1 p.m. in University Hall, Room 418. The 12th annual Center for African American Studies Conference will celebrate 50 years of hip hop with special guests Big Daddy Kane, J Kruz, and DJ 9th Wonder. The event will be held in The Rosebud Theater in the University Center on Wednesday,  Feb. 7, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Kidventure's Camp Arlington

Camp Arlington at UTA

Camp Arlington at UTA is offering a summer day camp to children ages 3-5 and to those entering first through fifth grade. Kidventure’s camp curriculum will include athletics, art, team building, rock climbing, archery, field trips, special guests, yoga, and fine and gross motor skills. Priority Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, for UTA faculty only. The tuition cost for each week of camp is $340 with discounts for two or more children in the same family, UTA faculty members, and AISD teachers. 

Third Thursday Think Tank UTA Veterans Business Outreach Center, Intellectual Property Basics for Business

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. on  Thursday, Feb. 15, the UTA Veterans Business Outreach Center is hosting its Third Thursday Think Tank event that is open to the local community, all UTA employees, and students interested in entrepreneurship and business ownership. Guest speaker Tim Ackermann, Navy veteran and lawyer at the Ackermann Law Firm, will discuss intellectual property basics for business owners. In-person attendance for this workshop will be located at the UTA College of Business, Room 609, and virtual attendance will be available via Microsoft Teams. Registration is required.

There will be a solar eclipse panel featuring UTA faculty experts and moderated by Adithi Ramakrishnan, reporting fellow at The Dallas Morning News,  Monday, Feb. 19, at the UTA Planetarium. Open to the UTA campus community and the public, the event will start at 5 p.m. with a reception, and the panel discussion will follow at 5:30 p.m. Registration details will be announced in an upcoming MavWire.
