Please join me in congratulating Angela Hickson, MPH, CIP, on her appointment as Interim Director of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Office, effective July 1, 2026.
Angela brings extensive experience in human research protections, regulatory compliance, and IRB operations, along with a longstanding commitment to Augusta University’s research mission. In her current role as IRB Operations Manager, she has provided leadership for the day-to-day operations of Augusta University’s biomedical and social-behavioral IRBs, supported regulatory compliance efforts, supervised staff, and advanced internal policies, procedures, and training initiatives that strengthen the Human Research Protection Program.
Angela’s background also includes prior service as IRB Training Coordinator at Augusta University, where she developed and delivered education and training programs for investigators, study teams, and IRB members, as well as experience as an IRB Technical Program Manager with the Air Force Research Laboratory, where she supported complex human subjects research portfolios and regulatory oversight. She is a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and holds a Master of Public Health from Augusta University.
In her interim role, Angela will assume responsibility for the full scope of the IRB Director position, providing leadership for the university’s human research protections program and supporting the continued integrity, efficiency, and compliance of Augusta University’s research enterprise. Her expertise, institutional knowledge, and dedication to research excellence position her well to lead the IRB Office during this transition.
