HOUSE RULES COMMITTEE HOLDING HEARING FAFSA DEADLINE ACT
The House Rules Committee will meet this afternoon to review H.R. 8932, the FAFSA Deadline Act. This bill proposes setting an Oct. 1 deadline for launching the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is typically when the forms are launched. It would also require the Secretary of Education to inform Congress about plans to meet this deadline and testify if the department anticipates missing it. The bill was advanced by the House Education and Workforce Committee in a bipartisan vote, but the next steps for a similar bill in the Senate is currently unknown.
