New Public Art Opportunity in Richfield

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for the Snow College Richfield campus! We are seeking qualifications from artists to create artwork for the upcoming Washburn Building expansion. This project aims to revitalize the Washburn Building’s south entrance, making it the primary entrance to the campus community. The Selection Committee has identified a location for an exterior work that creates a centralized landmark and reflects the culture of the school and history of the region. There is strong interest in artworks that utilize lighting to bring illumination to the area. Deadline to apply: March 23.

Seeking Artwork for Upcoming
Park City State Liquor Store

It’s a busy month for our program—we are currently seeking qualifications from Utah artists to create site-specific artwork for the new Park City State Liquor Store. The Selection Committee is currently open to artwork in the following categories: exterior sculptural, interior ceiling-suspended installations, or interior wall-hung 2D artworks. This location does not provide suitable opportunities for mural works. Park City has a vibrant arts and recreation culture, and the Committee is interested in artwork that reflects the unique qualities of the area. Deadline to apply: March 26.

New Artwork Installed at
Downtown State Liquor Store

We are excited to announce Kipp Kobayashi’s “Model Colony” as the newest addition to our public art collection. Recently installed at the Salt Lake City Downtown State Liquor Store, this sculpture adds a whimsical element to the space. Numerous small-scale buildings surround the illuminated sculpture, referencing the many modern and historical structures that form a community. Together, they create a beehive that is both literal and symbolic, honoring the beehive as the State of Utah's official emblem. Be sure to check it out next time you are in the downtown area!

Collection Highlight: “Above the Ploughman's Highest Line,” Ball-Nogues Studio, sculpture, 2020, Davis Tech Allied Health Building, State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection

This month, we’re featuring “Above the Ploughman’s Highest Line” by Ball-Nogues Studio as our collection highlight. Originally installed in 2020, this stunning piece transforms the stairwell in the building. Inspired by the Great Salt Lake, the artist abstracted an aerial image of the shore to become a stack of suspended horizontal bands. Overall, there is over 30,000 feet of enameled ball chain length suspended below the upper windows of the building. The result is an atmospheric piece that pays tribute to the Great Salt Lake and brings a sense of movement to the interior of the building.
