Dr. Paul K. Halverson will lead the School of Public Health
Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to share the news that Paul K. Halverson, Dr.P.H., M.H.S.A. was appointed dean of the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. He will join our community on February 1, 2024.

Dr. Halverson is the founding dean and a professor at Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health in Indianapolis. Before joining Indiana University, he was the state health officer and director for the Arkansas Department of Health and held senior leadership roles at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention including as the director of the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Center for Public Health. He holds a doctorate in public health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a master’s in health services administration from Arizona State University.

In addition to a distinguished résumé, Dr. Halverson’s work speaks to his dedication to finding lasting solutions to the public health challenges of our time such as food insecurity and racial inequities in healthcare. I look forward to working alongside Dr. Halverson as he advances our united efforts with OHSU to cultivate future leaders in the field of public health.

Please join me in extending gratitude to Dr. Rick Johnson, who stepped in to the interim dean position in July of 2022 and will remain in the position until Dr. Halverson’s arrival this winter. Thanks also to the members of the search committee who facilitated Dr. Halverson’s hire.

Sincerely,

Shelly Chabon, PhD.
Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
