FALL 2024 SEMESTER STARTUP

Whether you are returning to the U to teach this fall, or just beginning your teaching career here, the Martha Bradley Evans Center for Teaching Excellence has several resources to help you get ready to teach this fall. Read on for more information about syllabus and course prep, our Annual Teaching Symposium, and more.

SYLLABUS AND COURSE SETUP

Just a reminder, PPM 6-100 requires the following for ALL U of U courses:

  • Syllabi must be posted at least one week prior to the beginning of the semester (or by August 12).  These instructions will guide you in creating a hyperlink to your syllabus from the course schedule.
  • Faculty should provide reasonable accommodations to students who cannot attend classes due to sanctioned University activities, University closures, or sudden illness or emergencies.

The Center for Teaching Excellence website has several Syllabus Design resources, including a streamlined Syllabus Template as well as updated lists of required and recommended University policy statements and resources for students.

If you have questions about how HB261 affects your teaching, MBECTE has compiled an HB261 Teaching Resource page with information compiled from central administration, USHE, and more.

You can also request a consult with CTE staff for more in-depth course and pedagogy questions. Digital Learning also offers a Pre-Semester Checklist for getting started in Canvas, as well as several Canvas Help links.

DIGITAL LEARNING CANVAS WALK-IN HOURS

THE Digital Learning Technologies team will be available, in person, the week before school and first week of Fall 2024 to help with your Canvas questions. Monday-Friday 11:00am-2:00pm in the Faculty Center at Marriott Library

COURSE MODALITY CHANGES

Beginning Fall 2024, course schedules will be updated with the following course modalities. Please check your courses and their modality on the Course Schedule, and make sure you are scheduling your course appropriately

In-Person Courses are held physically on-campus, complemented by online resources

Hybrid Courses combine in-person and remote elements, with some sessions possibly in rea-time.

Online Courses are entirely remote, self-paced weekly, and do not include scheduled class meetings.
