Director’s Note

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I think we have gotten our second spring! I love spring and so appreciate the delicate and beautiful blooms that come suddenly and leave us so quickly this time of year. My apple tree had more flowers than ever before. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather allows them to develop into apples.

Last month, UA&M held a gathering for leaders in our arts and museum community. It was very inspiring, and I'm extremely grateful to everyone who participated and helped make it a success. If you want to learn more, check out this blog post and this great handout on strategic messaging from the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies.

In the spirit of profound gratitude, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the current staff at UA&M. Each team member is highly skilled and brings their professional self in service to Utah's arts and museum community.  All of our successes are due to the wonderful staff and volunteers who have built the foundation of service that we continue today. Our first advocate was Alice Merrill Horne, who created our agency. Through the years, each person associated with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums (formerly known as the Utah Arts Council, Utah Office of Museum Services, Utah Art Institute, Division of Fine Arts, Utah State Institute of Fine Arts, and probably other names that I've missed) has brought us to where we are today, and I am thankful to you all!

Enjoy the spring!

Warm regards,

Victoria Panella Bourns
Director, Utah Division of Arts & Museums
