When art + science come together, anything is possible

At Vanderbilt, learning takes place as much outside the classroom as inside. Our students study abroad in more than 40 countries, conduct lab research alongside world-class scholars, work as interns in leading corporations, publish academic papers, volunteer their time and skills to service organizations, and start their own companies—as undergraduates! But these experiences are not disconnected from their courses: students are engaged in a constant cycle of applying their classroom education to their real-world experiences, and vice versa. Our students benefit from a richer academic experience by engaging in both, as you’ll read in the stories below. And herein lies one of the core benefits of higher education: The combination of traditional academic learning with experiential learning deepens growth and understanding, better preparing tomorrow’s leaders to tackle the complex challenges facing our world.
