GIRLS SOCCER DEFEATS WARRIORS 2-1!
COMETS ON TO REGIONAL FINAL SATURDAY
Mason Girls Soccer continued their terrific 2024 tourney exploits by defeating Lebanon HS 2-1 in a Regional Semi-Final matchup at Princeton on Tuesday night.
Mason started the scoring with a great ball towards the goal by Allyvia Canham. Anna Habra took a beautiful shot that the Lebanon keeper deflected. Senior Lauren Cooley followed up on the Habra attempt and was able to bury it out of the reach of the Warrior keeper giving the Comets a 1-0 advantage. Later in the first half, Lebanon had a deep direct kick to equalize the score and it was all tied up at 1-1 going into halftime.
With 17 minutes remaining, Bella Anderson had a long shot on goal that was also deflected by the keeper. This time Anna Habra hustled to the line and followed up with a shot to give the Comets a 2-1 lead and ultimately the victory.
Mason keeper Anneliese Knight played brilliantly on the evening, holding the Warrior offense off the board with 6 saves.
Mason (14-4-2) advances to the Regional Final this Saturday and a chance for a much coveted State Final Four berth. Their opponent will be Seton HS (13-6-1) who defeated Oak Hills on Tuesday 2-1 to advance. The Comets earned a "hard-fought" 1-0 victory over Seton on Sept. 7th during the regular season. That game is scheduled for Saturday, 11/2 at noon at Lakota East High School.
Mason is seeking its fourth state Final Four appearance. The Comets captured regional crowns three consecutive years from 2012-14 and were state runner-up twice in that span.
Saturday's winner will play either Upper Arlington or Springboro in the State Semi-Finals on Tuesday, 11/5 at location TBA.
