Howie Choset Wins 2023 PIPLA Inventor of the Year Award
Carnegie Mellon's Howie Choset, the Kavcic-Moura Professor of Computer Science, is the recipient of the 2023 PIPLA (Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association) Inventor of the Year Award. Choset founded HEBI Robotics in 2014 to help bring his “Modular Robotic Units” to the world. AFWERX Awards Contract to Near Earth Autonomy
The US Air Force's AFWERX has chosen CMU spinout Near Earth Autonomy, led by CMU Ph.D. and CEO Sanjiv Singh, to collaborate on a reliability standard for autonomous aerial transport as part of the Autonomy Prime program. AFWERX Deputy Director and Tepper School of Business alumnus Phil Hahn recently worked out of the Swartz Center and has participated in many of its programs.

The Swartz Center Hosts Networking Lunch for the New Cohort of Innovation Scholars

The CMU Swartz Center hosted a final Proseminar networking lunch on Friday, April 30, 2023, to celebrate the new cohort of undergraduate Innovation Scholars and to wrap up the spring semester. Students from the current and last year cohorts of Innovation Scholars and graduate James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows also attended the celebration. Each of the new Innovation Scholars, including the two Qatar students who attended virtually, introduced themselves and shared their entrepreneurial aspirations.
The Proseminars will resume at the start of the fall semester.

Apply for the Customer Discovery Kickstart Program
The Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship’s Project Olympus Incubator announces the Customer Discovery Kickstart program, designed for early-stage startups to explore the feasibility of their business ideas. The second cohort will begin on June 14, 2023. This program helps startup founders to determine product-market fit by connecting them with potential customers and industry stakeholders. CMU students, staff and alumni are eligible to apply.
Apply for the June 14 - July 12 cohort by May 31, 2023.
