WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This workshop is open to all graduate students.
In graduate school, there is a subtle but powerful pressure to always appear certain, competent, and professional. This "performance" can lead to deep isolation and a loss of personal identity. This workshop helps students identify their "Frontstage" (professional persona) and "Backstage" (authentic self) spaces. The goal is to help students find or build communities where they can be themselves and connect through shared interests rather than just shared research.
|
- Understanding social performance and why academia is a "High-Performance" environment.
- Recognizing the versions of ourselves that existed before grad school
- Shifting from "Who can help my career?" to "Who helps me feel human?"
- Protecting and fostering your non-academic identities
