Dear St. Lukers,
New York gamblers, a hot-box dancer, and a Save a Soul Mission female leader.
It sounds like a great illustration for the Kin-dom of God and who we might find around the open Communion table at St. Luke’s – which is why it’s the perfect story to kick back off Theatre at St. Luke’s again with one of the greatest musicals of all time: Guys and Dolls in Founder’s Hall September 24 – October 3.

We are excited to be bringing back the theatre community in this touching story of fun, friendship, grace, and redemption. With familiar songs like “Luck be a Lady” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin' the Boat” you will join Nathan and Sky as gamblers looking for a new place for the “oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York” only to have their game and hearts stolen away by Adelaide, her sneezes, and the unlikely Mission dame, Sarah Brown.
It’s been so great to come together as a community after COVID closed our last production of Steel Magnolias in March of 2020. The cast is made up of familiar faces from St. Luke’s, our theatre ministry, and new faces who have come to be a part of our creative storytelling from the community. It is so good to be able to share in the transformative experience that happens on stage as a cast comes together to create art and build relationships, all to tell a story of joy and grace that the world needs to feel right now. The characters’ journey in this show fits right alongside the story we are telling with David in worship. We are connecting both the devotions for the cast and some of our worship services with the main characters of Guys and Dolls. We can’t wait to connect the transformation and redemption that happens in Guys and Dolls with David’s story in the Old Testament as we focus our final week on who the true love interest is in all of our stories.
To ensure this show is as safe as possible during this time, the entire cast, orchestra, and production crew are vaccinated and working diligently to put this show together with masks, temperature checks, and following all of our precautions. Ticket sales will be a little different as you can choose your price tier. After receiving your initial purchase confirmation, you will receive a follow up email with your seat information. This new process will help us ensure social distancing between seats. Tickets are on sale now! You can also donate to Theatre at St. Luke’s after selecting your ticket tier or give through our QuickGive platform to help sustain this creative outreach ministry. Invite your friends and place your bets on what a great time you will have! We promise, you won’t go home empty handed.

This Sunday we will be looking at David’s Caregivers and Protectors, Jonathon and Michal. If you haven’t watched the lecture or listened to the podcast from this week, click here to dig into the biblical story of these two characters in David’s story with us. It’s really a perfect time to talk about the people who play these roles in our lives and especially recognize the many frontline workers caring for us as a community. Whether hospital staff, medical staff, teachers and administrators, military, or our civic leaders, these people are stepping up to be the caregivers and protectors of our communities and our world. As you come to worship, bring some names on your heart, or even on a list, so we can consider how we honor God by honoring the pivotal role they play in our stories.
Can’t wait to connect with you – online, on campus, however you engage with us. Remember, the Story of St. Luke’s is not the same without U!
Steve and Jenn.
Reminder: The church campus will be closed on September 6 in observance of Labor Day, and will re-open on Tuesday, September 7 at 9:00 a.m.

On Sunday, St. Luke’s United Methodist Women were all smiles (under their masks) as they proudly watched Pastor Jenn cut the ribbon and open the doors of their renamed gift shop: Blessed Treasures!
