YMCA Regional Championships
177 YOTA athletes made their way to Lynchburg, Virginia for the 2025 Upper Southeast Regional YMCA Championships over the weekend of March 20-23. It was a great weekend of racing and it was truly a celebration of the hard work these swimmers have put in throughout the year. By the end of the weekend, we had 72 YOTA swimmers place in the top 9 in their individual events, and 19 YOTA relays place in the top 3. Our men’s, women’s, and combined team scores placed first overall, sending us home with the Regional Championship trophy once again! Well done, YOTA!
YMCA National Championships
26 YOTA athletes spent the week of March 30th-April 4th together in Greensboro for the 2025 YMCA National Short Course Championships. This meet is one of the most highly anticipated meets of the year and this year did not disappoint. From reunions with YMCA swimmers from across the state and country, to quality team bonding time on deck and at the hotel, this was a week to remember. Throughout the week, YOTA had 6 swimmers place in the top 16 in their individual events, and 7 YOTA relays placed in the top 16 as well. YOTA history was also made at this meet as Evan Hepburn set a new team record in the boy’s 15-18 200 Breaststroke with a time of 1:58.82, and Blake Zimmermann broke the boy’s 13-14 1650 Freestyle record with a time of 16:17.93! At the end of the week, the YOTA Women finished 19th, the YOTA Men finished 14th, and YOTA placed 15th as a team overall! Well done, YOTA!
North Carolina Masters Championship
The 2025 Masters North Carolina Short Course Championships brought together 35 teams from across the state for an exciting weekend of adult competitive swimming on March 29-30, 2025. The YMCA of the Triangle Area (YOTA) dominated the meet, claiming the overall team title with 898 points.
One of the meet’s highlights was the YOTA 18+ Men's 400 Medley Relay, which shattered the existing state record by 27 seconds. Additionally, four YOTA swimmers earned high point honors in their respective age groups, showcasing both depth and talent across the team.
Masters swimming offers adults (ages 18 and up) an encouraging and challenging environment that builds confidence, fosters a sense of pride, and allows swimmers to stay active while competing at a high level both in and out of the pool. Find out more about our YOTA Masters Swim Team HERE.
