Students living off campus must follow local rules about parking and public transportation, especially during the winter.
If your off-campus residence is in the City of Oneonta, below are some reminders about your responsibilities:
- Oneonta, NY does not allow street parking after 2.5 inches or more of snowfall. See the City's full parking policy. If you don’t have off-street parking near your residence:
- The City will open off-street parking in municipal lots during winter storms so you can move your car. Notifications about these lots are sent through their urgent messaging system, Nixle, and posted on the City of Oneonta Facebook page.
- You should monitor the weather and move your car before any storms with more than 2.5 inches of snow predicted.
- Remember, Oneonta Public Transit (OPT) bus service may be reduced or stop completely during winter storms. OPT posts announcements about changes to their schedule on the City’s Facebook page and has a live bus tracker on the OPT website or on the "Oneonta Public Transit" mobile app.
- We encourage you to sign up for text alerts & urgent messages for Oneonta, NY and follow the City’s Facebook page.
If you do not live in Oneonta, you should check the snow removal and parking regulations for your town or city.
