The ICTS and The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital have awarded 18 investigators as part of the 18th annual Clinical and Translational Research Funding Program (CTRFP). The CTRFP is the largest internal grant funding program of the ICTS, and around 90 letters of intent were received this funding cycle with approximately $1M awarded for investigator-initiated projects.

Registration Now OPEN for the ICTS 7th Annual Symposium – “Accelerating Translation: The Science of Moving Forward”

This year's event on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 will emphasize differences in translational research versus translational science and how projects can be adapted to overcome longstanding challenges along the research pipeline. Highlights include keynote address from Ruth O'Hara, PhD (Stanford University), and presentations and panels providing real-world examples of utilizing translational science principles in research.

ICTS Precision Health (PH) Survey

ICTS PH and their partners are seeking your input to help shape the future of computing at WashU! ICTS is exploring interest in the research community at WashU for managing computational workflows executed on local infrastructure (e.g., High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters) as well as third-party cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).

ICTS JIT Core Spotlight – Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD)

The BERD core supports all phases of research study design, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of results. BERD is supported by the Biostatistics Consulting Service, which provides biostatistical consultation in a wide range of areas including the statistical design of experiments and clinical trials, protocol development, database management, analysis of data and interpretation of results.

  • The WashU Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) Diagnostic Center of Excellence was recently renewed with a five-year, $3.8 million grant to expand its research in resolving diagnoses in patients with rare diseases, specifically in underserved communities. Brett Maricque, PhD, co-Director of the ICTS/IPH Center for Community Health Partnership & Research and current CTRFP awardee, serves as the center’s community engagement team lead.
  • Sarah Hartz, MD, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry at WashU Medicine, and her research team were recently published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions¸ recognizing their work to communicate the effects of taking the new Alzheimer’s medications in language that is accessible and understandable to patients and their families. Hartz has used the ICTS Precision Health function to support this research.
  • Christina Gurnett, MD, PhD, ICTS Associate Director and A. Ernest and Jane G. Stein Professor of Neurology at WashU Medicine, recently published in the American Journal of Human Genetics highlighting work on identification of a new genetic cause of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). Gurnett and the research team utilized the Bioinformatics Workshop training to analyze the DNA.

The ICTS supports an ongoing, collaborative effort in the Just-In-Time (JIT) Core Usage Funding Program, designed to provide quick access to funding to use any of the affiliated Cores for research advancing medical knowledge that can improve human health.

Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) Seeks Applications for Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) and Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI)
Through didactic coursework, structured mentorship, and interactions with a diverse peer group of trainees, the postdoctoral MTPCI and/or MSCI enables scholars to learn how to develop effective research projects, utilize human subjects in clinical trials, collect, analyze, and summarize data, apply epidemiologic principles and tools, consider relevant ethical and legal issues, write grants and manuscripts, and compete for research funding. Applications close on April 15, 2025 (for fall start date).

WashU Brown School Accepting Applications for Systems Science for Social Impact (SSSI) Summer Training Institute
At this five-day training, participants will get a hands-on introduction to systems science methods with a focus on five main tracks: Intro to Systems, Agent-based Modeling, Group Model Building, Social Network Analysis and System Dynamics. The workshops are designed for faculty, advanced graduate students, recent graduates, and professionals from public health, social work, and social sciences. The application process is open, and candidates will be accepted on monthly basis through July 11, 2025.
