Spring has officially sprung in East Lansing! The tulips, daffodils and hyacinth are blooming, and the birds are chirping after a dark, cold winter. Like the flowers of spring, our students will bloom again with hope for a brighter future. If your student needs some additional support, please remind them that resources are available.
Many families still have questions for administrators in how campus is responding to the events on Feb. 13. We are offering those interested an opportunity to hear campus safety and security updates and academic policy and procedure updates. If you would like, please register to join us Wednesday, April 12, at 7 p.m. for a one-hour Zoom webinar with MSU Department of Police and Public Safety Chief Rozman, Associate Provost of Undergraduate Education Mark Largent, and Assistant Provost and Executive Director of University Health and Wellbeing Dr. Alexis Travis as they share campus updates and information, and answer as many questions as possible about these updates. This webinar will also be recorded.
We appreciate the continued support of the campus community and look forward to seeing many of you at the end of spring semester, whether it’s moving your student, celebrating graduation, or coming for MSU Dairy Store ice cream. Be sure to give a wave and Go GREEN, and we’ll respond with a hearty Go WHITE!
Until then, take good care,
Laurin

Finals
Spring 2023 final exams are May 1-5. Students may feel even more stress than they did for fall finals, as all of their extracurricular group activities are also coming to an end for the year. There will be final projects, papers and exams, along with final group activities, award ceremonies and recognitions, and in many cases, packing up residence hall or sorority/fraternity rooms and apartments. Add these stressors to an already difficult semester, and you may find your student could use some additional supports. Remind them that CAPS services are still available, along with therapeutic activities like therapy dogs, puppy visits, destress programs and meditation spaces across campus.

Move Out and Pack Up. Pitch In.
Spring 2023 move-out will take place May 1-5 for residence hall residents. You can learn more about the move-out process, check-out instructions and room condition checklist at liveon.msu.edu/move_out.
Pack Up. Pitch In. is a division-wide effort to reduce residence hall waste during move-in and move-out. There are designated donation stations throughout all of the residence halls that accept nonperishable food, clothing and shoes, books and more. Your Spartan can ask the service center if they need help finding the nearest donation location.
Additionally, MSU partners with Two-Men-and-a-Truck for summer student storage. Visit twomenandatruck.com/student-storage for more information.

University Health and Wellbeing Shares End-of-Semester Reminders As spring semester comes to a close, here are a few important reminders to support your student’s well-being:
Primary care appointments are available through Student Health Services. Remember that the university pre-pays three medical office visits per academic year for students. Students must schedule their own appointments, and there is still time to get a regular check-up before the end of the semester. Visit olin.msu.edu to lean more or encourage your student to call 517-353-4660 to make an appointment.
Free wellness coaching is also available to students through the Health Promotion department. This free program helps students achieve their mental and physical health and well-being goals by working with their individual strengths and values to create a long-term, sustainable wellness strategy.
Students may still be feeling a range of emotions following the Feb. 13 events on campus. The stress of final exams, transitions to their summer routines and other adjustments that come with the end of the year can also have an impact on how they feel. Remind your student that all feelings are okay, whether they feel ready to enjoy these milestones, or if they are still processing what happened. For additional resources and guidance for supporting your Spartan, visit go.msu.edu/crisissupport.
