Porchfest is an annual event in the Deering Center neighborhood that hosts musical performances and celebrates community in a simple and joyful way. The event is free and all are welcome. They need volunteers at road closures to help folks get where they need to go, hand out schedules and to help performers transport equipment. To sign up, email Amy!

Volunteer with Ruth's Reusable Resources |
3Rs is in its 30th year of service to schools and non-profits. Each day, throughout the school year, children in Maine attend school without needed pencils, paper, and other basic supplies. At the same time, businesses in Maine dispose of these same basic items. 3Rs bridges the gap between business and education by transferring those unwanted supplies to children and their teachers.
You can see their available opportunities on their website and email office@ruths.org to sign up!

Volunteer with Mount Joy Orchard! |
Mt. Joy Orchard is a free to pick public orchard providing a creative social space while demonstrating the use of agricultural practices that promote pollinator habitat, biodiversity and the preservation of Maine's agricultural heritage.
Mt. Joy is maintained by the community, mostly during monthly work parties. Every spring they plant more plants, always with a eye towards expanding diversity. Every fall they add lots of mulch to help build up the soil and minimize weed pressure. In winter they prune the trees to maintain health, productivity and ease of harvest.
If interested in joining a work party all you have to do is show up at one of the below times, no RSVP needed! Email volunteer@garbagetogarden.org afterwards to receive credit.

Thursday September 26th, 4-7pm
Saturday October 12th 9-12Noon
