Insights from IR: October 2024

Did you know more than half of our new undergraduates this year are first-time freshmen?  Just 4 years ago, nearly two thirds were transfer students!  Our new student population has really changed in the last few years - have you considered how this might affect your work in supporting students at CSUN?

The Fall Student Snapshot now shows official Fall 2024 numbers!  Learn about our 36,848 students, including the top 5 high schools and community colleges new students came from this year!

Ever wonder what students say about their experiences at CSUN?  Check out the NSSE Dashboard!  It shares CSUN freshman and senior responses to NSSE (National Survey of Student Engagement) which asks about student engagement and experiences in programs and activities that aim to bolster learning and personal development.  This dashboard has recently been updated to improve users’ ability to dig into the data, especially with regard to equity gaps and comparisons to peer institutions.

Our paper on A Framework for More Intentional and Equity-Minded Race Data Disaggregation is hot off the presses, in the latest issue of the AIR (Association for Institutional Research) Professional File!  Lead author and former CSUN IR Data Intern Nathan Lieng, along with CSUN Professors Que-Lam Huynh and Jason Morin, and CSUN Senior Director IR Janet Oh, advocate for further disaggregating student race data as a critical tool toward equity-minded data work, using a case study of APIDA student data.
