Four UW-Whitewater team members — including two senior leaders — earned prestigious fellowships to travel abroad and conduct research, teach, and visit other higher education institutions. Steven Girard, professor of chemistry, Pieter deHart, provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs, and John McGuigan, director of the Center for Global Education, claimed Fulbright awards. Jenna Cushing-Leubner, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, will head to Finland as part of the country’s 2026 Visiting Fellow Programme.

Sunday: Deadline for scholarship application

Attention students! As part of the second-annual Paint Wisconsin Juried Exhibition — on display from Aug. 13-Sept. 18 at Roberta’s Art Gallery and the Cultural Arts Center in Whitewater — Roberta’s Art Gallery is offering a $400 student scholarship, the Roberta Avonn Fiskum Outstanding Student Award. The award will be selected by local muralist Caryl Yasko and the jurors, and will be awarded to one outstanding UW-Whitewater student.

Warhawk selected national Rookie of the Year
|
Elizabeth Vanderhei, a mathematics and business analytics major from Mukwonago and member of the UW-Whitewater women's bowling team, was named National Tenpin Coaches Association NCAA Division III Rookie of the Year for the 2025-26 season.

Students earn 11 Best of the Midwest awards for media work
|
A total of 16 Warhawks combined to earn 11 Best of the Midwest Media awards for UWW-TV from the Wisconsin Community Media for the 2025-26 academic year.

| UW-Whitewater esports teams win regional title
|
A total of 15 students combined to win two team championships at the 2026 Regional Esports competition, hosted in the UW-Whitewater Esports Lab, from April 18-19.

Kudos to Jodi Simek, international education manager in the Center for Global Education, Rasmata Kabre, an accounting major from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and Ava Hennig, an international business and Spanish major from Elk Grove Village, Illinois, who presented “Connecting Student Employment Experience to Academics” at the seventh annual International Office Conference on March 2. Both students work in the Center for Global Education — Kabre is a student assistant in international students and scholars, and Hennig is a global ambassador. Conference info »

UW-Whitewater was featured in the “Today in Sports” article in the Associated Press on May 27, the 12th anniversary of the university finishing an accomplishment that’s unprecedented in NCAA history — winning football, men’s basketball (pictured), and baseball national championships in the same academic year (2013-14). Cally (Kopplin) Jacque, who earned a B.A. in art in 2015, was hired before graduation as a graphic designer. She now works at Juris Digital, a digital marketing agency for law firms, and is thriving as art director.
