We hope you are well! This update outlines planned construction activity on Vanderbilt’s Chelsea campus from Monday, August 10, through Sunday, August 16.

At a glance: This week’s key community impacts |

Construction activity is expected Monday through Friday, beginning at 7 a.m.; weekend work begins at 8 a.m.
- The 21st Street campus entrance remains closed. Community members should continue to access campus via the 20th Street entrance.

Exterior work continues, including the restoration of bluestone pathways and facade. Work on campus lighting, ramps, the ADA lift and the 21st Street entrance continues, with moderate to intermittent medium construction noise.
- Temporary access impacts may occur along the West 21st Street sidewalk throughout the week.

Interior renovation continues across campus, particularly in Sherred and Seabury. Community members may notice visual changes in windows, increased material movement and furniture deliveries.
- Vehicles parked in marked no-parking zones are subject to towing.
- The Chapel remains closed to the public.

Construction activity is expected Monday through Friday, beginning at 7 a.m. Weekend work will begin at 8 a.m. Community members may notice signs of activity on campus, primarily inside Seabury and Sherred, during nontraditional work hours.
- Parking impacts on West 20th and West 21st streets will continue throughout the summer. Vehicles parked in marked no-parking zones remain subject to towing.

Trucks with deliveries are expected throughout the week. Impacts will be similar to prior weeks, with flaggers directing traffic as needed.
- Temporary staging of construction materials, equipment and storage sheds remains on campus with a new shed near the Chapel.

Renovation of the 21st Street campus entrance continues; the entrance remains closed.

Noise impact: Medium noise
- Spatial impact: The 21st Street campus entrance is closed for the foreseeable future. Community members will continue to use the 20th Street entrance (429 W. 20th St., New York, NY 10011) to access campus. Equipment will remain stored in the area. Removal of old concrete will continue, and crews will conduct regular cleaning.

Brick restoration continues; scaffolding installation is transitioning to the south side of the Chapel.

- Noise impact: Moderate to medium noise

FYI: Facade restoration is nearing completion on campus buildings. The newest scaffolding will allow crews to work at higher elevations on the Chapel tower. This is part of an ongoing effort to preserve not only the appearance of our historic campus but also support its long-term structural integrity. Recovered materials are used in the restoration process across campus to mitigate unnecessary waste and honor the past.

Bluestone walkway restoration and landscaping work continue to progress, with intermittent elevated noise.

- Noise impact: Moderate to medium noise

Spatial impact: The bluestone paths from the east and west sides of campus are now connected in front of the 21st Street entrance. Fencing on the Close is changing as bluestone restoration nears completion. Community members can expect visual changes in landscaping as crews anticipate laying new sod this week.

FYI: Bluestone resetting and brick curbing around the Chapel is near completion, and broader landscaping restoration is planned as part of the project’s completion. This activity follows stormwater infrastructure upgrades.

Spatial impact: Removed materials may be loaded for disposal with minimal additional disturbance. Aesthetically, the community may notice changes in doors and windows across campus. Community members may notice visual signs of activity inside Seabury and Sherred outside standard working hours.

FYI: Steady progress continues across campus, recent focus points include Sherred classrooms, Pintard Lounge and Seabury Auditorium. Dorm furniture delivery is complete and installation is nearly finalized. Crews continue installing the stained glass windows in Seabury, an exciting milestone in the restoration of this historic space. Interior work is nearly completed in Keller.

Campus accessibility ramp and ADA lift construction continue, with intermittent elevated noise from stonework.

- Noise impact: Moderate to medium noise
- Spatial impact: The community may notice a temporary fence as work continues around the Hoffman ramp. Brownstone installation on the ramps continues, and the final components for the ADA lift will be delivered this week with no out-of-the-ordinary community impacts.

FYI: This work supports improved accessibility across campus. Current efforts focus on installing borders for the ramp outside Hoffman and continuing construction of the Sherred and Seabury ramps, as well as the ADA lift at the 21st Street campus entrance.

The General Theological Seminary is hosting summer intensives on campus this week. Minimal community impacts are anticipated.
