As we move through this year’s budgeting season, which kicked off at the beginning of February, we’re not just setting numbers — we’re aligning around a shared purpose. This is our opportunity to reinforce operational discipline, thoughtful stewardship and continued momentum behind the strategies shaping our year ahead. I recognize that this work unfolds during a particularly challenging period in our institution’s history, and I am deeply grateful to the faculty and staff who bring focus, care and commitment to this effort every day.
As part of this year’s process, we’ve launched the Clinical and Academic Budget System (CABS), a new budgeting tool designed to better support how our teams plan and manage resources. Developed by the Health Sciences Finance team, with extensive input from faculty and staff, CABS provides a reliable, standardized, cloud-based platform that simplifies budgeting and reduces manual work.
I’m encouraged by the early feedback about CABS, with users highlighting the system’s modern, intuitive design; easier position planning and tracking; greater transparency around shared services costs; and navigation features that reduce guesswork and save time. Many have shared how valuable it is to work in one integrated system — eliminating duplicate tools, shadow spreadsheets and unnecessary manual steps.
CABS is one example of a broader set of transformational initiatives underway across Health Sciences that aim to enhance the way we work. We remain dedicated to evolving our business intelligence capabilities, expanding access to timely data and reports, and streamlining business processes so our work is more efficient and our decisions are better informed. Together, these efforts are about making it easier for our teams to do their best work in support of our academic, clinical and research missions.
Above all, I want to recognize the extraordinary effort required by our teams during this budgeting season. Thank you to everyone across Health Sciences who brings resilience and collaboration to this work each day. Your contributions are essential — not only to sound financial stewardship, but to the strength and future of our institution.
