Dear Eagle Nation:
Congratulations on another successful I Love Coppin Week, where we celebrate what it means to be part of Eagle Nation, honor our history, and set a bold vision for our future. We paid tribute to our namesake Fanny Jackson Coppin, who was born on October 15, 1837. She was a trailblazer in education, who worked to impart the importance of education to African Americans, as well as the opportunities and freedom it could provide.

I appreciate Coppin State Men's Basketball Coach Larry Stewart for joining me for the return of Talon Talk. It was great to answer questions from our students, faculty, and staff, while also enjoying the Hot Chip Challenge with Coach Stewart - who can take the heat on and off the court. We are looking forward to a great season for Coppin State Men's and Women's Basketball. This season is going to be incredible. You can join us in the "Nest" by getting your season tickets here.

We also celebrated 50 of our newest Presidential Scholars and Fanny Jackson Coppin Scholars. It was my honor to present these exceptional valedictorians, salutatorians, and thought-leaders with monogrammed blazers and cardigans that symbolize their promise as leaders and the great things they will accomplish at Coppin State University. If you would like to support the academic journeys and holistic development of our scholars, visit www.coppin.edu/give.

The Baltimore Sun profiled TaKenya Stafford ('26), a sophomore playing for Coppin State Volleyball. TaKenya's family is known for their athletic pedigree, including her aunt, who played in the WNBA and coached at North Carolina Central, while her grandfather played baseball for Grambling State.
Head Coach Tim Walsh says of TaKenya: “she brings a sense of assurance to the team. She kind of came in trying to fill the void with Miajavon graduating, and that’s a big void. She was an impact player, and TaKenya has come in and done a great job.”
