The Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center: Current Services, Future Visions, and Potential Roles for Learning Technologies

In this talk, Dr. Wehby will introduce the newly established Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center, outlining its overall mission, student population served, curricular approaches employed, and current Vanderbilt partnerships. He will also share the vision longer-term goals of the permanent school that is currently under construction. 

 

With an eye toward innovation, Dr. Wehby will outline emerging plans for the Dyslexia Center, setting the stage for a discussion of potential collaborations with LIVE on how learning technologies might support and extend the Academy’s mission. Pizza lunch will be served. 

 

Symposium on AI, Education, and the Learning Sciences

AI is rapidly transforming education, sparking both excitement about new learning opportunities and concerns about its impact on learners and communities. On May 8th, Northwestern University will host a symposium exploring AI’s role through the lens of the learning sciences, emphasizing the complexity, social nature, and real-world context of learning.

 

The event is free to attend and welcomes researchers from both Northwestern and beyond. They encourage early registration to reserve a spot and invite attendees to showcase their ongoing work in a poster session.

Learning Analytics Internship Opportunity at Newsela

Applications are now open for a Research Intern position on Newsela’s Research Team. This internship focuses on using quantitative methods to assess the impact on student achievement. The intern will collaborate closely with the Lead Research Analyst, 

applying statistical, technical, and communication skills to real-world educational research. Newsela seeks current graduate students eager to gain research experience in an industry setting.

 

The internship is remote, will take place during the summer 2025 with flexible start and end dates, and will pay $35/hr.

LIVE Summer Discovery Program

The LIVE Summer Discovery program is designed to help undergraduate and master's students excel in learning technology innovation research projects over the summer.  The program will offer weekly technical skills seminars, professional development activities and research check-ins to help students build expertise and make meaningful progress on their research. 

The program will run from Monday, June 2, to Friday, August 1, this summer. More details will be shared soon. For any questions, please email live@vanderbilt.edu.
