Required Website Training for All |
|
|
|
In an effort to keep our website editors and publishers current on the evolving OHIO web landscape, all web editors and publishers are now required to complete four Drupal training courses. While training has long been required for new users, the Drupal interface and training materials have evolved significantly in recent years, including expanded accessibility training. As a result, some existing users received access before the current training was developed.
To ensure all users have consistent, up-to-date knowledge and practices, please self-enroll and complete all four courses by December 18, 2026 to maintain Drupal access.
Please contact Shelli Minton at sminton@ohio.edu with any questions.

Hero Element Button Testing |
Put Your Most Important Links/Actions Front and Center |
Where you place important links matters. The UCM web team recently tested removing primary CTA (call-to-action) buttons from the hero area on three live OHIO webpages, and all three tests showed a similar pattern: when the hero CTA button was removed, clicks to the target link/action decreased.
Users did find the same or related links elsewhere on the page, but only 27% of the clicks lost from the hero CTA button were recovered through other links. In other words, simply having an important link somewhere on the page doesn't mean users will find it or take action.
|
The Takeaway for Web Editors |
Identify the most important action you want visitors to take and make it prominent. For high-intent pages, placing a primary CTA button in the hero gives users a clear next step and can have a meaningful impact on engagement.

Check Time-Based Content on Webpages |
The beginning of the new academic year is a great time to review your pages looking for past events, outdated deadlines, and any stats or fast facts. Whenever possible, consider removing year references so that pages don’t have to be updated every semester.
