To the Harvard Chan community,
I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Glynn as a Richard L. and Ronay A. Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow for the upcoming Spring 2 term. During his fellowship, Glynn will teach HPM 552: "Health Policy Leadership: Managing Health Care Innovations" in the Department of Health Policy and Management.

Glynn brings a distinguished career spanning health care management, public service, and transportation leadership to the School. In health care, he served for 14 years as chief operating officer of Partners HealthCare, a network of hospitals and neighborhood health centers in eastern Massachusetts. Earlier, he oversaw the Medicaid program in Massachusetts as deputy commissioner of public welfare and worked with Stuart Altman as assistant dean of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. His board service has included Brandeis University, Pine Street Inn, the Center for Surgery and Public Health, and Dartmouth Health, and he has served as the chair of the Mayor’s Healthcare Commission in Boston and as a senior fellow in health care at the Center for American Progress.

Glynn has also held major leadership roles in transportation and the federal government. He has served as the MBTA’s general manager and as the chief executive officer of Massport, which oversees Logan Airport. At the federal level, he served as deputy secretary of labor under Secretary Robert Reich and as executive director of a White House task force on youth employment. A graduate of Tufts University (BA) and the Heller School at Brandeis University (PhD), he has taught public and health care management at the Harvard Kennedy School for eight semesters and led an executive education course for newly appointed public health commissioners.
We are delighted that our students will have the opportunity to learn from his extensive experience at the intersection of health care delivery, public policy, and organizational leadership. Please join me in welcoming Tom Glynn to Harvard Chan School this spring.
Best,
Eric Andersen
Director, Senior Leadership Fellows Program and Studio Programming
