The Larner College of Medicine, in collaboration with the American Red Cross, hosted its first annual blood drive on Wednesday, June 21, in the Larner Classroom. More than 60 members of the Larner community donated blood.

Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education Christa Zehle, M.D., has announced the appointment of Anthony Williams, M.D., as assistant dean for admissions. In this role, Dr. Williams will provide leadership support for the recruitment and selection of Larner College of Medicine medical students.

ACCOLADES & APPOINTMENTS

Debora Kamin Mukaz, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, was selected as a fellow for the October 2023 Intersections Science Fellows Symposium (ISFS). As an ISFS Fellow, Dr. Kamin Mukaz is invited to give a 15-minute oral presentation during the symposium, scheduled virtually for October 4–6. Kamin Mukaz will receive an honorarium for her work.

Class of 2025 medical students Lindsay Aldrich, Jack Braidt, John Burke, Ryan Kelly, Kelly Knight, Elizabeth O’Neill, Virginia Ramirez, and Gabriela Sarriera-Valentin have been selected to receive the 2023 Excellence in Public Health Award from the U.S. Public Health Service Physician Professional Advisory Committee of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service.

Scott Anderson, M.D., professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, received the Margaret Grimes Distinguished Achievement Award in Graduate Medical Education at the Association of Pathology Chairs 2023 Annual Meeting held in Chicago July 16–19. The award honors pathology educators who demonstrate a range of contributions at various levels of graduate medical education.

Amanda Broder, conference and member event coordinator for the Larner College of Medicine’s Teaching Academy, was recently recognized by the UVM Staff Council. Broder, who co-chaired the Staff Council’s Community Engagement Committee, was named Outstanding Community Engagement Committee Member of the Year.

The Department of Surgery at the University of Vermont has announced that Gary An, M.D., has been appointed as the inaugural Green and Gold Professor of Trauma and Critical Care.
