Christian Thompson: Future Ancestor | Spencer Museum of Art

St.Louis-area Architecture & Interior Architecture Scholarship 

The M+H Scholarship will annually award one $5,000 scholarship to a student studying architecture or interior design at an NAAB-accredited school of Architecture or a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program.  

Eligibility: 

- Must be enrolled in an NAAB accredited school of Architecture 

- Must be in their third, fourth or fifth year of school 

- Must have a permanent address in the St. Louis metropolitan region

Populous Co-Op Spring Internship  

Applications for the Populous Spring Co-Op Internship Program are officially open. 

The co-op program will run from January through April and provides students with the opportunity to work alongside other design professionals to create memorable places where people love to be together. 

Positions are available for the following disciplines: Architecture, Interior Design/Interior Architecture, Graphic Design

🙌 Handmade Utopia: Back-to-the-Land Architecture in Northern California

A compendium of unseen folk architecture and a cultural history of 1960s NorCal utopianism.

Half a century ago, a legion of young idealists dropped out of society and went “back to the land,” creating a patchwork of utopian communes across Northern California. Handmade Utopia: Back-to-the-Land Architecture in Northern California tracks down the rogue souls still committed to this way of life, capturing their handbuilt, otherworldly residences alongside the stories of how they came to be—at what is now the tail end of one generation’s grand social experiment. 

Handmade Utopia travels the length of Northern California, which formed the epicenter of the movement, journeying down hidden dirt roads and deep into redwood forests to discover handmade homes kept hidden for decades. Michael Schmelling’s photography documents how these structures appear today and David Jacob Kramer’s oral histories detail how they came to be, and are presented alongside a plethora of archival materials.

The Hatch Reading Room, on the 4th floor of Marvin Hall, is here for you to de-stress, work on projects, take a break to read, and enjoy a quiet view of campus. Hours: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. 📚
