Supported by eights years of research and interviews with elder activists, artist Evan Apodaca pairs long-forgotten archival treasures with his own written interpretations.

The exhibition brings together contemporary artists from Southern California and Baja to explore a region in constant transformation. Selected by a curatorial advisory panel including Johnny Bear Contreras and Gabriel Boils Terán, the exhibition offers fresh perspectives on landscape, revealing how environment, culture, history, and community shape our evolving sense of place.

The ISLAA Research Fellowship supports PhD students based at universities in the United States whose work contributes to doctoral dissertations and advances original scholarship on Latin American art. Fellows conduct primary source research in New York and develop projects grounded in the holdings of the ISLAA Research Center. The program gives emerging scholars direct access to materials that may be unavailable elsewhere and encourages close engagement with overlooked artists, archives, exhibitions, institutions, and intellectual networks.

A Hammer Contemporary Collection exhibition that takes its title from the 1973 studio album and 1974 film by Sun Ra. The selected works in the exhibition consider “space” as a conceptual framework, through the themes of afro-futurism, belonging, placemaking, and the act of taking up space. Space Is The Place comprises installations, paintings, sculptures, photographs, and multi-media works by nearly thirty artists.

The Cheech, Riverside, CA
Chicano Camera Culture: A Photographic History, 1966 to 2026 is the first major survey to examine the depth and evolution of Chicana/o/x lens-based image-making over the past 60 years. Featuring some 150 works by nearly 50 U.S. Chicana/o/x artists, the exhibition moves thematically and intergenerationally, spanning early activist photographers with contemporary artists whose work builds upon this powerful legacy.
