Deb's Corner
Changes are afoot in the CFE! After nearly 10 years with Creighton, our former Director of eLearning, Andrew Bunton, has moved on to a new opportunity at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As we move forward, I am very pleased to announce that Kate Johansen, MS, Instructional Designer, has agreed to serve as our Interim Director of eLearning while we search for Andrew’s successor. Kate brings a variety of experiences to the role, including five years as an instructional designer on the CFE team. In addition to her expertise in instructional design, her specialty is in universal design and online accessibility. Prior to coming to Creighton, she served at the University of Arizona as a senior academic advisor, research specialist and laboratory manager for a combined 13 years. Her master’s degree is in Microbiology, and she holds a graduate certificate in higher education instruction. We are excited to welcome Kate and wish Andrew well in his new endeavor!
In this season of gratitude, I want to extend a hearty thank you to the entire CFE staff. For a second semester in a row, the faculty development team led by Faculty Development Specialist, Mary Emmer, MS, offered nearly twice the programming that we offered in our last semester pre-Covid, working with our Faculty Associates, University collaborative partners, and the Faculty Development Advisory Group. Our University Assessment Symposium and assessment processes were great successes, led by our Program Outcomes Specialist, Sarah Oliver, M.Ed., MBA, and members of the University Assessment Committee. Our eLearning team, led by Kate Johansen, including our instructional design team, exam development team, and our eLearning Media Designer continue to provide stellar consultation to our Creighton faculty. I also thank the members of the Committee on Computing & Academic Technology (CCAT) for their work this year. Without this entire team, the Center for Faculty Excellence simply would not exist. Many thanks to the entire CFE team! And I wish all of you—faculty, staff, administrators, and students, a happy holiday!
Have a great holiday break!
Deb Ford, Ph.D.
Associate Vice Provost-Center for Faculty Excellence

eLearning: Spotlight & Resources
| |
eLearning Staff Spotlight: Natalie Boulton, Instructional DesignerAs an instructional designer with the Center for Faculty Excellence, I primarily support the Department of Occupational Therapy, working with faculty to design courses that not only follow instructional design best practices but offer engaging learning experiences. My early career began in the middle school classroom where I first became passionate about creating inclusive learning environments. During my time as a middle school teacher, I was able to see how impactful well-designed and intentional learning environments can have on students’ interests and success. While I miss being in the classroom, I enjoy discovering new educational technologies that help to improve student experiences here at Creighton and have met so many amazing and supportive people! My husband Jason and I have two children, Lance (11) and Andrew (7). We love to travel. As a family, we have seen 27 states stopping at 8 national parks. Our favorite so far has been the Pacific Northwest! Outside of traveling, we enjoy great food, golf, hiking, and anything involving a good time!

UPDATE: Elimination of Deadline for Switching to New Quizzes
Based on customer feedback, Canvas is holding off on the sunset of Classic Quizzes and they are removing the deadline to switch to New Quizzes. For the foreseeable future, both quiz styles will remain available for use in Canvas/BlueLine. Canvas will focus on improving New Quizzes for a more seamless transition from Classic Quizzes when customers are ready. No new product features will be added to Classic Quizzes. However, the product will be maintained, and all critical bugs will be fixed. Visit the New Quizzes Hub for updates on New Quizzes and help with the migration from Classic to New Quizzes.

Quiz Accommodations:Occasionally, an instructor may need to adjust the time limit for an individual to take a quiz or grant another attempt. This feature is called "moderating" and is available on graded quizzes & surveys. Refer to the corresponding tab on the following pages in the BlueLine Faculty Guides:
