Fellow Mavericks:
I trust that your semester has been a rewarding one so far. March means we approaching the halfway point of another semester, as well as celebrating Women's History Month, a time to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women throughout history. I am reminded of the importance of the contributions of women across UTA every day as I meet with phenomenal faculty, staff, and students. In the realm of higher education, this celebration holds particular significance. From pioneering women who fought for access to education to the countless researchers, educators, and leaders shaping the academic landscape today, women have played a vital role in driving progress and fostering intellectual growth. One example is our very own Michele Bobadilla, Senior Associate Vice President for Outreach & Community Engagement, whose unstoppable story and contributions were highlighted recently by NBC5.
This month there are several events that highlight the contributions of women throughout our Maverick community and I hope you will consider attending one or more of them. Let's also use this month as an opportunity to not only acknowledge these past and present contributions but also work towards creating an even more equitable and inclusive space for women in higher education for generations to come.
Wishing you a wonderful March and Women's History Month.
Sincerely,
Tamara L. Brown, Ph.D.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Help us with student success - Share your Maverick Promise!
|
UTA's strategic plan, Shared Dreams Bright Future, has a student success theme, and we need your help!
I introduced the "Maverick Promise" to leadership when UTA2030 launched last month, which asks us all to consider how we can ensure UTA keeps its promises to support students to remain enrolled, graduate timely, and enter jobs that are connected to their majors. I asked everyone to identify one thing they will commit to daily to ensure they are doing their part to help UTA keep its promises made to students. No matter where we serve, we all have a role to play.
What's your Maverick Promise?
Tell us how you're contributing to student success! Send us your #MaverickPromise.
Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of UTA students!

Transfer Credit Tool Upgrades |
The Office of the Registrar will roll out an upgraded transfer credit tool by the end of March. The upgrade will make more information available to transfer students than ever before, while also including features intended to make the tool easy to use.
This upgrade will include information on thousands of courses that students could transfer to UTA, helping them get closer to completing their degree. While the transfer credit tool offers an initial analysis, a final evaluation will still be conducted upon receipt of transcripts. However, this new tool provides valuable transparency and ultimately removes barriers to student success. Thank you to the Office of the Registrar and the offices that assisted in making these updates.

On Monday, April 8, 2024, the UTA community will experience a total solar eclipse, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Not since 1878, has the North Texas region seen a total solar eclipse. The picture above highlights five astronomers and their equipment from the Fort Worth Eclipse Party, as published in the Report of the Observations of the Total Solar Eclipse July 29, 1878, Made at Fort Worth, Texas.
Fast-forward 146 years, and UTA is hosting a Solar-bration, an opportunity for the entire Maverick community to participate in a variety of events, including dedicated viewing locations across campus. For a complete list of activities and further information about the Solar-bration, please visit the event website.

Student Spotlight: Vashith Konduru |
Meet Vashith Konduru. He’s a computer science master’s student who just started his academic program. In his first semester, he had perfect grades in all classes and this semester secured a job in Talent, Culture, and Engagement. What he loves about UTA is its faculty, specifically, how responsive they are to student needs and they are always available to answer questions and do whatever they can to ensure students succeed.

Building Emergency Safety Team (BEST) |
To provide a safe environment for UTA students, faculty, staff, and guests, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has created the Building Emergency Safety Team (BEST) program. OEM is asking deans, directors, and department heads to appoint a primary BEST program coordinator, who will serve as the point of contact for a unit, department, or building in the area of emergency preparedness and safety. Reach out to your supervisor if you are interested in becoming a BEST coordinator. For more information, email Aurora Some or OEM.
