| Parish Lenten Retreat: Are you seeking a deeper life with God? Then join fellow parishioners for a retreat at the beautifully-renovated Virginia Mae Center on the grounds of Washington National Cathedral. Led by guest speaker James Catford, the three-day gathering will provide ample space for connection with God, both individually and within the context of a small, intimate community of Christ Church parishioners. Each day will include recitation of the Daily Office, contemplative talks, guided prayer, and group sharing. To register, click here. Tuesday Evenings in Lent: This Lent, we invite you to join us for fellowship and formation on Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17, and 24. Following a simple supper at 6:30 p.m. in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium, attendees will participate in one of three distinct opportunities for learning. At the conclusion of the evening, all will gather in the Church to recite the brief office of Compline.

Tolkien and Christianity: The Christian Heart of The Lord of the Rings: J.R.R. Tolkien is best known as the author of The Lord of the Rings; less well-known is his abiding Christian faith, which lies at the heart of the book he once called “a fundamentally religious and Catholic work.” Join Father Andrew Stump for the next four of a five-part exploration of the Christian ethic of faith and redemption embedded within Tolkien’s mythology that has given his work its enduring power and legacy. Adult Baptism, Confirmation, and Reception Course: We all come to Christ Church having walked different journeys. If you have not been baptized and would like to be, or if you have been baptized, but not confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, then this five-week-long course, led by the Rector, will provide an opportunity for you to take the next step in faith. Reconciliation and Spiritual Healing: The next in our series of Sunday morning short courses will take place on Sundays, March 8, 15, and 29, at 10:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. Sessions will explore the need for, and nature of, spiritual healing, particularly as practiced through forgiveness, the sacrament of confession, and spiritual disciplines in daily life. Women’s Eastertide Retreat: Get away for a girls’ weekend in a 19th century farmhouse at Fox Haven Organic Farm in Jefferson, MD. Handmade quilts and an open hearth welcome you into a cozy space for connecting, reflecting, playing and praying with other women from the parish. Our curated program will include foraging for herbs and making your own herbal tea, healthy dining, great laughs, and deep renewal. The retreat will take place from April 17-19. | Parish Forum: The 2025-2026 series, Living Liturgy, will continue on Sunday, March 1, at 10:15 a.m. in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium, with a presentation by the Reverend Dr. James Farwell, Professor of Liturgy and Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary: The Liturgy of Holy Eucharist (Part III): Why the middle bits? The role of the Prayers, Confession, Peace, and Offertory, and their relationship to liturgical living.
Spiritual Parenting Short Course: How can you keep the promises you make at your child's baptism? Though we cannot determine what spiritual paths our children will choose, we can model and help them grow into an authentic Christian faith. Join seasoned parent Mother Tiffany Clark for an interactive, honest look at what spiritual parenting does (and does not) look like. The final session will take place on Sunday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m., in Keith Hall.
Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, March 1, at 5:00 p.m. The liturgy will include plainsong, as well as choral works by Henry Purcell and Thomas P. Smith. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. A reception follows each service. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Do plan to join us… and bring a friend.
Centering Prayer in Lent: Are you looking for a way to experience the presence of God amidst the busyness of daily life this Lent? Then consider participating in a weekly, community-led time of centering prayer and Lectio Divina on Tuesdays, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., via Zoom. Drawn from the monastic tradition, these practices offer an intentional way for individuals to make themselves available to God, acknowledging that “we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” To join the video call, click here. Thursday Morning Bible Study: This semester, participants in the Thursday Morning Bible Study are exploring the Revelation to Saint John, an ancient book filled with vivid descriptions and startling imagery – one that shows us God’s world as it truly is. Sessions will take place on Thursdays, March 5 and 19, April 2, 16, and 30, and May 14, at 8:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. A Zoom option is available. Women’s Bible Study: Join the women of Christ Church as they seek to meet Jesus in the pages of the Gospel according to Saint Matthew. This semester, participants are exploring Christ’s fulfillment of Isaiah’s Messianic prophecies, his inauguration of a kingdom that upends human expectations of greatness, and his calls for participation in that kingdom’s way of life. Sessions will take place on Mondays, March 9 and 23, April 13 and 27, and May 11, at 6:00 p.m., in the Memorial Room. A Zoom option is available. New participants and guests are welcome. Thrift Shop Update: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the Lower Level of Linthicum Hall, is open on Wednesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on the fourth Sunday of each month in conjunction with the parish Feast (10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) Donations are currently being accepted on Wednesdays during the Thrift Shop’s normal hours of operation or by appointment via the Parish Office. Contributions of gently-used clothing and costume jewelry are needed at this time.
Mission Trip to Kenya: Sponsored by the Centre for Urban Mission, an educational outreach of the Anglican Church in Africa, this immersion experience is designed to open participants’ eyes to human experience in a context radically different than their own and to develop their capacity to respond strategically. A contingent from Christ Church will serve in a variety of local ministries currently operating in Nairobi’s Kibera Slum. Participants will worship, serve, and eat alongside Kenyan Christian partners, sharing in the joyful communion of saints and learning from each other along the way. Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.
