| Student-Faculty Interactions |
Here at Bucknell we pride ourselves in the close connections that can be formed between students and faculty. It was nice to see Walker Allen ’26, Samuel Berry ’27 and Colin Soule ’25 recently compete against Bucknell computer science Profs. Fuchsberger and Lee as well as a faculty member from a nearby institution in a board game session.
Congrats to Walker on the victory after a 10-hour marathon game!

Civil Engineers Perform Well at Seismic Design Competition |
I participated in the 2024 Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Annual Meeting in Seattle last week as a member of the Board of Directors and facilitator of the new member orientation. The Bucknell chapter of EERI joined me and Profs. Steve Buonopane and Nicholas Tymvios at the conference for their first Seismic Design Competition. The team of seniors Reilly Almgren, Jason Beck, Reanne Burgess, Sophia Goldin, Michael Krajniczyn, Gugu Sibanda and Michael Von Rohr saw their tower survive the first earthquake load (watch the video!). They finished 23rd out of 41 U.S. and international teams.
At the end of the competition, the team enjoyed a party hosted by event sponsor Computers & Structures, Inc. (CSI) and did sightseeing around Seattle.
This year’s EERI Conference focused on “Uniting Earthquake Science and Engineering for a More Resilient Future” and included technical sessions, reconnaissance training, poster sessions, networking, in addition to the Seismic Design Competition.
