With the May 1 pre-application deadline approaching, now is the time to shape your concept for the 2027 Innovation Set-Aside. This program supports ideas that may not fit within the traditional 9% Tax Credit round. The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) is seeking proposals that introduce fresh approaches to partnerships, targeted populations, affordability, construction methods, energy efficiency, financing, and other innovative strategies.
The most competitive projects will demonstrate multiple innovations while aligning with the mission and goals of Iowa’s Federal Housing Tax Credit Program, including collaboration, long-term affordability, durability and location.
Finalists will be invited to pitch their concepts to a panel of experts at the 2026 HousingIowa Conference in Des Moines on September 10. The selected project will have the opportunity to be awarded federal housing tax credits to help bring innovative housing solutions to life in an Iowa community.
Pre-applications are required and must be submitted by May 1 at 4:30 p.m. The resources below are available to help guide your proposals.
