Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94), Library South, 5th Floor

Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94)  - A participatory art project sponsored and organized by the Undocumented Migration Project (UMP).

The exhibition is composed of over 4,000 handwritten toe tags that represent migrants who have died trying to cross the Sonoran Desert of Arizona between the mid-1990s and 2024. These tags are geolocated on a wall map of the desert showing the exact locations where remains were found. This installation has been shown nationally and globally in close to 150 locations since 2019 and is currently ongoing.

Out of the Attic and into the Archives: A Retrospective of 21st Century Collecting - thru December 20, 2026, Library South, 5th Floor

The exhibition focuses on Latinx activism, Jose Guadalupe Posada calaveras prints, the LGBTQ+ movement, Latinx comic books, the early civil rights movement organizations, Filipino American activism, the anti-nuclear power movement, the history of Los Angeles literature, the tradeswomen movement, feminism and the suffragette movement,  the history of the underground press in the U.S., Compton history and a wide range of protest posters relating to civil rights and Central America.

Faculty, instructors and community groups are invited to bring classes and other groups for a exhibition overview or tour.  Use the exhibition tour request form to schedule.
