WITH THE GRADUATING STUDENT EXHIBITION
|
The 2026 Graduating Student Exhibition presents the work of more than 600 student graduates in 16 areas of study from the School of Art and Design. The work is the culmination of each student's unique experience in FIT's diverse, challenging, and demanding undergraduate art and design programs. Featuring juried, award-winning, and thesis projects, this presentation is the manifestation of several years of research, experimentation, critical thinking, and artistic proficiency.

ART X FASHION KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL PROGRAM
|
In March, The Museum at FIT completed its 10th annual Kindergarten School Program with students at PS 33 Chelsea Prep in conjunction with the MFIT exhibition Art X Fashion. Weekly visits to the kindergarten classroom explored the "Elements of Art" — line, shape, color, form, and texture — and investigated their relationship to fashion. Students made their own art and, with the help of FIT's childrenswear students, turned their artwork into fashion accessories. The program culminated in a trip to MFIT to visit the exhibition, as well as a display of childrenswear designs by the FIT students who participated in the program and drew inspiration from their experience. The month-long program brought together Chelsea Prep kindergarten teachers and students, the MFIT education team, teaching artist Annina Christensen, and FIT professor Lauren Zodel and her Explorations in Childrenswear students. | OBJECT OF THE MONTH
Interpretations of Cat Chow's work vacillate between wearable art and sculpture, depending on where it is exhibited. "Measure for Measure" (2003) mimics a 1950s housewife's dress, and the use of woven measuring tapes used for sewing explores ideas of women's beauty standards, especially around body size. VALERIE STEELE INTERVIEW
Dr. Valerie Steele, Director and Chief Curator of The Museum at FIT, is a pioneer in the field of fashion studies. She has been instrumental in establishing fashion as a legitimate intellectual and cultural subject. Alain Elkann asks her why she's devoted her life to the study of fashion. "Both the allure and the problematic aspects of fashion attracted and interested me."
LOEWE BRINGS MR AND MRS ALBERS TO THE CATWALK
Art and fashion conjoined this spring as Jonathan Anderson for Loewe took inspiration from the Bauhaus weaver Anni Albers and her husband, the painter Joseph Albers. "Curiously, the act of transforming these artists' works into fashion makes them even more emphatically aesthetic objects. Suppressing the history of the original art's creation offers the radical effect of forcing a highly attentive gaze at the surface of the works on view."
