FUNDING NEWS

Tao Ye (PI), Assistant Professor, in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering was awarded $550K by the National Science Foundation for his project, “CAREER: Data-Driven Prioritization and Control of Disinfection Byproducts in Drinking Water.”

Xiaofeng Qian (PHY)

Xiaofeng Qian (PI), Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, was awarded $500K by the Chin Ying Foundation for his project, “Parameter-Decoupled Superresolution in Astrophysical Imaging.”

William Querido (BME)

William Querido (PI), Biomedical Engineering Assistant Professor, was awarded $225K by MTF Biologics for his project, "Non-destructive Quality Assessment of Tendon Allografts Using NIR Fiber Optic Spectroscopy.”

Christopher Sugino (ME)

Christopher Sugino (PI), Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor, was awarded $50K by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for his project, “Dynamic Pressure Inversion Using a Piezoelectric Sensor Network," (Sandia National Lab as prime).

Yi Guo (ECE)

Yi Guo, Thomas E. Hattrick '42 Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, recently served as Program Chair for the 2025 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) in Hangzhou, China –– the world’s premier robotics conference.

Jon Miller (CEOE)

Jon Miller, Civil, Environmental and Ocean Engineering Research Professor, was awarded the researcher of the year award from the North Jersey branch of the American Society of civil engineers.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Nicholas Kraus Coastal Scholar Award from the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association

Brenna Derby, an ocean engineering master's student, recently received the Nicholas Kraus Coastal Scholar Award from the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association at their annual conference in California. The award is given annually to a graduate student who aspires to advance his or her knowledge and experience of coastal science through an internship with ASBPA.

Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) Students and Young Investigators Section (SYIS) Scientific Excellence Award

Rana Ibrahim, a biomedical engineering Ph.D. student in Dr. Hongjun Wang’s Laboratory of Nanotherapeutics and Tissue Innovation, has received the Scientific Excellence Award for TERMIS-AM. This award recognizes the scientific excellence of students and young investigators working in the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Former Senior Design Team Wins VentureWell E-Team Program Funding

Evan Peneiras and Aaron Shamouil, biomedical engineering graduates, continued their senior design project on smart glass to monitor glaucoma. Recently, along with Sarah Peneiras (CCB student), they received funding from the VentureWell E-Team program. Dr. Jennifer Kang-Mieler is serving as the PI for the team. The E-Team supports teams by providing funding and entrepreneurship training workshops. They will also have the chance to apply for the next phase, which will help them develop their business models.

Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor's Society has its Annual Conference in New Mexico

Ruhi Ajinkya, president of the Stevens' chapter of Tau Beta Pi, recently traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to represent the chapter at their four-day national conference. At the event, the chapter was honored with the Chapter Excellence Award, recognizing the hard work and dedication of its members throughout the year. Through fun and engaging events and community outreach, this chapter works to bring engineering students from different disciplines together to help the Hoboken community and grow with one another.
