In a time of political uncertainty, one tradition has continued to unite and inspire, drawing crowds and enthusiasm year after year. The Día de Muertos celebration at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College’s enduring popularity is proof that community spirit never wavers. The two-day, free event drew more than 3,100 people in its sixth consecutive year. FAC leaders couldn’t be more thrilled.

“I am very pleased with this year’s celebration!” shares Director of FAC Events Rebecca Rounds. “We added some great new community organization partners, new food vendors, and new artisans to make our mercado more robust and they have all been fantastic additions to the event, and most importantly, wonderful partners.”

Block Talks: How to Study Abroad

Play

Did you miss the Block Talks at Inauguration last Saturday, Nov. 8? We will be sharing some of the wonderful talks over the next few weeks.

Steven Hayward, Professor of English, examines how digital connectivity has changed the way we experience new places and cultures and offers a path to rediscovering authentic connection through intentional moments of ‘lostness’.

If you'd like to view all of the Block Talks before they appear in Around the Block, you can find them on the Presidential Inauguration website.

New Community Printshop at Bemis School of Art

A smiling person stands behind a counter at the Denver Tool Library, holding up a handmade card with a blue block print that reads “JOY JOIE” and shows a playful figure. Behind them are folded T-shirts, hanging merchandise, and signs welcoming visitors to the library.

In collaboration with the Colorado College Art Department, Bemis School of Art is thrilled to launch the Bemis Community Printshop—a new space for creative exploration in Colorado Springs! Begin your journey with one of our hands-on workshops—a prerequisite that opens the door to affordable open studio sessions, where you can keep exploring a variety of printmaking techniques at your own pace. The first workshop is Saturday, Dec. 6, from noon-3 p.m.

Our goal is to foster a welcoming community where artists of all levels can access professional printmaking facilities and feel inspired to experiment and create.

Pictures with Santa!

Santa Claus sits on an ornate red and gold chair, wearing glasses and a red suit trimmed with white fur. He looks surprised or delighted as he reads from a large, illuminated book with a decorative “S” on the cover. A small table beside him holds stacked books and a glass bowl, all warmly lit against a dark background.

Make this holiday season extra special! Bring the family to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, and snap a festive photo to remember. Kids can enjoy coloring stations while you grab a snack or drink from our concessions. Want to make it a true holiday adventure? After seeing Santa, step into the magic with Mary Poppins! It’s the perfect way to capture the joy and wonder of the season. Pictures with Santa begin Saturday, Nov. 29, and run Saturdays and Sundays through December.
