RIASA 2025—Fostering Unity and Service |
In October 2025, the “Reunion Iberoamerica de Servicios de Al‑Anon” (RIASA) was held virtually over two days. The theme was “El fruto del amor es el servicio en la unidad” (The Fruit of Love Is Service in Unity). Fifteen structures from Spanish- and Portuguese‑speaking countries came together to share their voices, experiences, and hope to foster unity and service across their communities. Uruguay served as the host country for this 12th RIASA.

Willingness and the Collateral Benefits of Service |
“If you are like me, sometimes service commitments don’t inspire excitement. When I first heard the terms Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, they sounded like another room in a house I wasn’t allowed to enter. They sounded intimidating, even out of reach. Honoring the Legacy of Longtime Al-Anon Family Groups |
The earliest family groups united under the name of Al‑Anon Family Groups in 1951. Did you know that some of those pioneering groups are still meeting 75 years later? Early groups were located across the globe—in Australia, South Africa, Ireland, Canada, and the US. The first French‑speaking groups were established in the 1950s and the first Spanish‑speaking groups in the 1960s. Since those early days, Al‑Anon has grown to include thousands of groups worldwide, many with decades‑long histories of helping families and friends of alcoholics.
