Weekly Happenings

We’re talking the text!  Each Tuesday, the pastoral staff discusses the sermon text for the upcoming Sunday. We invite you to listen in and hear our conversation about God’s Word. The link is provided below, and the sermon text is based on

Luke 21:5-19 and Malachi 4:1-2.

In light of the SNAP crisis, there is a need to help support the Martha O'Bryan Center Food Ministry. They are the busiest food bank in the city and have partnered with Second Harvest to help the community. Due to the location in public housing and close to Downtown, they are experiencing a high demand for food. Westminster is helping them stock their food bank.
Our food drive started Sunday, November 9, and Tom McDow has dropped off the collection of items we gathered on Sunday.
Tom is pictured here with the second load of goods he delivered on Tuesday.

Please consider donating canned goods on Sunday. Collection boxes are located at the Mayfair and North entries.
The following items are in need:
Proteins: Peanut butter, canned or dried beans, lentils, canned chicken, tuna
Whole Grains: Brown rice, whole-grain pasta, and whole-grain cereals or oats.
Canned Goods: Vegetables (preferably low-sodium), Fruits (packed in juice or water, not syrup), Soups, stews, and chilis (low-sodium)
Cooking Staples: Cooking oil, and spices like salt, pepper, and other dried herbs.
Healthy Snacks: Granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit (with no added sugar).

Sister, Sinner
Led by Carole Bucy

- Different Date Due to Thanksgiving Holiday -
On a spring day in 1926, Aimee Semple McPherson wandered into the Pacific Ocean and vanished. Weeks later, she reappeared in the desert, claiming to have been kidnapped. A national media frenzy and months of investigation ensued. Who was this woman?

America’s most famous evangelist, McPherson was a sophisticated marketer who used spectacle, storytelling, and the newest technology―including her own radio station―to bring God’s message to the masses. Her innovations brought Pentecostalism into the mainstream, paved the way for televangelists, and shaped the future of American Christianity. Her Angelus Temple in Echo Park, Los Angeles, can be called the first megachurch. Her Foursquare Church continues, with more than eight million faithful around the world.

But after her disappearance, as crowds gathered at the water’s edge, people asked: Was McPherson everybody’s saintly sister, or a con-artist sinner? The story of what happened next―sex scandals, religious persecution, legal shenanigans, the seemingly unshakable faith of thousands of followers, and the race to cover it all―runs through the center of Claire Hoffman’s thrilling
Sister, Sinner.
