NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Keith Burns, founding member of the ACM Award-winning and Grammy-nominated group Trick Pony, celebrates 25 years of country rock history with his reimagined recording of the trio's eponymous breakout anthem, "Pour Me."
Originally released in 2001 (Warner Bros. Nashville), "Pour Me" spent 28 weeks on the charts, establishing the female-led Trick Pony as a group of fiery trendsetters known for its unique rebellious edge, gritty harmonies and high-octane performances. Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the hit (penned by Trick Pony members Keith Burns, Heidi Newfield and Ira Dean alongside Sam E. [AKA Sammy Harp Wedlock] and Rory Waters Beighley), Burns releases his version TODAY! The track is available now via all major digital streaming platforms.
Recorded at the famed Curb Studios, Burns' 2026 rendition is a timeless collaboration produced by Ray Termini to be released on White Mustang Records, founded by music industry veteran James Stroud. Stroud’s history with the brand runs deep, having produced Trick Pony’s PONY UP EP in 2016.
The re-recording of the fan-favorite reinforces Burns’ place within a lineage of artists carrying the torch for traditional sensibilities. Crystal clear storytelling and classic country production (featuring fast-paced fiddle, layered rockabilly guitar solos and wailing keys and organ highlights) reflect a standard that prioritizes simplicity over polish.
"This version of 'Pour Me' respects instrumental tradition of legendary country music and the soul and energy of the original recording," Burns says. "Ray and I worked to stay true to the sound that brought us to the dance. I think both loyal listeners and a new generation of honky-tonkers will dig it. We, as a group, broke the mold and this is a celebration of a really good run amongst a group of talented young hopefuls."
Burns and Termini enlisted an elite roster of Nashville’s most decorated session musicians, including:
Mike Brignardello - Bass (Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton)
B. James Lowry - Acoustic Guitar (Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire)
Brent Mason - Guitar (George Strait/Blake Shelton/Alan Jackson/Brooks & Dunn)
Gordon Mote - Keys (Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen)
Lonnie Wilson - Drums (Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood)
Aubrey Haynie - Fiddle (Nashville Session Ace)
Shelly Fairchild - Background Vocals
"For the new listeners, the storyline portrays a tongue-in-cheek narrative, drowning sorrows with each pour..." Burns adds. "'Pour Me' is a play on words, referring to both pouring a shot and seeking comfort in the bottom of a glass, and the emotional outpour of broken-hearted feelings. We hope y'all will put this one on repeat for another pour."
Burns' version of "Pour Me" follows the most recent release of his original tune "They Don't Live Here Anymore" (March 2026) which is at radio now. His next original single, "Cowboys Don't Get Old," features a special vocal appearance by Tracy Lawrence and will release in late October 2026.
