Worship Change for Lent

The Worship Committee is excited to invite the congregation to join in a new Lenten discipline in worship starting this Sunday. During the season of Lent, we will observe a slight change in the order of worship to create a space and time for prayer, meditation, and reflection as worship begins.

On the worship hour (8:30 or 11:00 a.m.), the steeple bell will ring, a liturgist will welcome the congregation, share the announcements (including the signing of the friendship pads), and lead the Call to Worship.

Then, the congregation will be invited to sit and prepare for worship by listening to the Prelude.

Following the Prelude, the lay liturgist will invite the congregation to stand for the Prayer of the Day, and worship will then continue as in the past.

After the Benediction, the Pastor will invite the congregation to sit for the Postlude or move quietly to the parlor for fellowship.

The worship committee hopes this new discipline will provide congregants with a closer connection to God during our Lenten journey.

“Worship begins as the people gather—greeting one another, praying in silence, sharing announcements, and offering music to the glory of God.” -The Book of Common Worship

When will Donovan retire? Donovan recently turned 63 and plans to retire at age 65.

Why retire at 65? With a talented staff and strong lay leadership, Westminster is well-positioned for the future. While pastoring a large church is rewarding, it also brings significant stress. Donovan hopes to retire before he is fully gray. He’s got two dark hairs left.

What will Donovan and Beth do in retirement? Beth and Donovan plan to travel during their first year of retirement and reflect on life in Nashville after their service at Westminster. They also anticipate a period of grieving as they leave a beloved community that has been central to their lives.
Dear Church Family,
We want to share a brief staffing update with you. As of March 1,  2026, Dale Nickell has stepped down from his position as Associate Director of Music Ministries and Organist.
We are thankful for the ways Dale has served our congregation and the music ministry, and we wish him well in the next chapter ahead.  As is our usual practice with staffing transitions, we will not be sharing additional information.
During this time, we are working towards a smooth transition and ensuring continuity in our music program. We will communicate further as plans come together.

Grace and peace,
Donovan Drake

We’re talking the text!  Each Tuesday, the pastoral staff discusses the sermon text for the upcoming Sunday, and we publish it each Wednesday in our eBlast and our YouTube channel on Wednesdays. We invite you to listen in and hear our conversation about God’s Word.

Equal Chance for Education

The Journey to Equality in Education Continues
Immigration has long shaped the American story—and the church has often been called to respond with compassion, wisdom, and practical support for those seeking a better future. This class will explore the intersection of faith, immigration, and educational opportunity right here at Westminster.
Together, we will reflect on the ways our church has built ministries to welcome the stranger and care for our neighbors, while also examining the modern realities facing immigrant youth in the United States—particularly students who pursue higher education despite significant legal and financial barriers.
The class will also highlight the work of Equal Chance for Education (ECE), a Tennessee-based nonprofit that supports students who are FAFSA ineligible but are determined to pursue college degrees. Through scholarship support, mentoring, and community, ECE helps students transform perseverance into opportunity.
Participants will learn about the challenges these young people face, the gifts they bring to our communities, and ways people of faith can support pathways to education and hope. All are welcome.

We're so close! As of this writing, we are at $3,790,000 towards our 2026 pledge campaign goal of $3,800,000. Your response has been inspiring. If you have not yet made your
pledge, will you join us now in helping to make our campaign goal a reality? Your financial commitment ensures that we grow in our faith through discipleship and fellowship, that our children and youth are spiritually nurtured, that those in need receive meals and care, and that
our voices are raised to God in worship through music and prayer. These gifts are a meaningful part of who we are and are given in thanks to God for our blessings. May we use them to be a blessing to others - bringing light to the world.
We offer thanks for your generosity that transforms lives and promotes positive and lasting hope for our community in the world.
