Announcing DWN’s Freedom Fighters Cohort |
Detention Watch Network is pleased to announce its second cohort of formerly detained leaders! This cohort follows a founding cohort created in response to the need for specific spaces for formerly detained organizers. The cohort is a space for these leaders to build and deepen relationships with each other and receive leadership development and political education sessions based in a healing-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive way.
|
Cohort members have lived experience in multiple forms of detention across 17 detention centers and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to each campaign they’re a part of. The Freedom Fighters cohort is an 18-month leadership building program, where members are compensated for their participation and have access to apply for project grants to support their organizing. When asked to describe what being a part of this cohort means to them, they shared: power, transformation, empowerment, resistance, emotional growth, and support.
