New Year, New You

The start of a new year often marks an opportunity for people to reflect on their life and think about where they would like to be in the future. It’s true, New Year resolutions get a bad rap often for unrealistic goals and additional pressure and stress, but they can serve as a great starting point to identify strategic priorities. Same goes in Marketing – it is a perfect time to reflect on what has not worked and pivot towards meeting set goals. Count on AMA PDX  to continue to be an essential marketing community and hub of knowledge, tools, and resources to propel your marketing efforts to the next level.

 WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Christian,

2024 feels like it's flying by and it's already thrown some major curveballs - thinking about the great ice storm of January 2024. The AMA PDX Board of Directors kicked off the new year (pre ice storm) with an in-person retreat to review progress towards our strategic goals and align on priorities for the remainder of the board year. We've got a lot of exciting things coming up!
Our Agency Program received 17 applications from local nonprofits looking for pro bono marketing support. As we currently review applications, we can’t wait to announce the nonprofits selected soon. Later this month, we are launching a new Marketing Meet-Up series to bring together our community and the collaborative 2024 kickoff event has been rescheduled for March 7th. On Wednesday mornings, I offer 1:1 virtual coffee chats. I’ve met with over half a dozen professionals to better get to know the local marketing community. Schedule a time here to connect with me. I'd love to hear what you are looking for from AMA PDX. Hope to see you at an upcoming event!

Cheers,
Kate

AMA PDX NEWS & UPDATES

AMA PDX Agency's impact shines with the Portland Refugee Support Group

Since 2007, AMA PDX’s signature program, Agency, matches marketing volunteers with local nonprofits to work on a 6-month marketing project. AMA PDX Agency gives volunteers the opportunity to grow their skill set and give back to the community. In return, Portland’s nonprofit community has a chance to leverage local marketing talent, develop richer volunteer and donor bases, and evolve their marketing strategies.

Portland Refugee Support Group (PRSG) was one of the nonprofits that benefitted from Agency’s services in 2023. Recently, PRSG announced the steps it is taking in its brand identity journey that AMA PDX Agency helped make possible. PRSG credits AMA PDX Agency for the work, saying that the “collaboration not only influenced certain visual aspects but also introduced a new member to PRSG team positioned to lead PRSG marketing efforts….” Read More

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

How to navigate anti-DEI efforts as a marketer

Diversity, equity, and inclusion has been a central theme in various sectors over the past few years. However, in today's landscape, the momentum for these initiatives has slowed, or even in some cases, stopped completely. Following the Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action, the fallout has impacted not only universities but also public and private sectors as well as legislation. Across the country, employees, like marketers, may encounter challenges when dealing with anti-DEI sentiments. In this blog post, we'll explore effective strategies for marketers to navigate and overcome these challenges, fostering a more inclusive and equitable approach to their work.

WHY I VOLUNTEER WITH AMA PDX...

"After many years as a consumer-focused global digital marketer at Fox Studios and the Walt Disney Company, managing brand campaigns including for the movies Frozen and Deadpool, I wanted a change of pace for my family and moved to Portland. As I was acclimating, I discovered AMA PDX and opted to serve as a volunteer in the Agency program, assisting a local nonprofit with pro-bono marketing services. My relationship to the organization deepened as I, like AMA PDX, want to elevate Portland marketers and the community as a whole.” – John Dolan, VP of Membership
