There is a 10-week summer undergraduate research program sponsored by the University of Michigan Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP, which is an MD/PhD program) on the medical campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. UM-SMART is designed for undergraduate students who have an interest in obtaining a combined MD/PhD degree leading to a career in academic medicine as a physician-scientist performing basic research relevant to human health and disease. As a UM-SMART summer research fellow, students work full-time in a basic research laboratory under the mentorship of a research faculty member.
In addition, the MSTP will be hosting an Information Session on February 5, 2025 from 12:00pm-1:30pm EST. This is an informal chat with program staff and current fellows to answer questions about our MD/PhD program, the admissions process, and Michigan. Interested students can register to attend and find more information
