Open Call for 26-27 Common Read Nominations

Colorado College seeks proposals for our 2026-27 Common Read, a tradition that has provided our campus community with shared intellectual experiences since 1970. In addition, the Common Read frames the shared inquiry of our new first-year course, CC Elevate. As such, we seek texts that combine our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with critical reflection on higher education, intellectual development, and belonging in academic spaces.

Over the past two years, we've had great success with collections like bell hooks' Belonging and Alice Wong's edited collection, Disability Visibility. Ideal texts will:

  • Engage with questions of identity, power, and justice while explicitly connecting these themes to educational experiences and intellectual growth
  • Model critical thinking and scholarly inquiry in accessible ways that help students reflect on their own academic journey
  • Explore how diverse perspectives and lived experiences shape approaches to learning and knowledge creation
  • Be appropriate for first-year students while maintaining sufficient complexity for advanced academic discussion

To nominate a book, please use this survey. The deadline is Friday, Mar. 13. Questions? Contact Jarred Wiehe, Director of College Transition Programs.
